The Competitive Us

When someone tell you.. "U are very competitive".. dont you take it as a compliment? I am sure you do! The word "competitive has a postive connotation. In today`s world if someone is not perceived "competitive" its like calling that person " a looser", a slow kindda guy!!
While i agree that a competitive spirit in every individual is needed to get you to where you want to go but isn't it taking it too far when you see little children in these shows that are currently doing the rounds on Indian TVs. they are called little champions, little maters, little voice of India etc etc... But there is nothing little about these shows except the age of the participants.
Everything else is anything but little..
The aspirations are HUGE!
The pressure on the child to perform is HUGE!
The drama created by parents pusing their children when they win or lose is HUGE!
The audience pushing these children to their utmost limits is HUGE!
The publicity that throws these innocent babes in front of limelight is HUGE!
The only thing that is "little" is these tender aged flowers who wilt so fast with that kind of onslaugt on them that they dont even get to live their childhood...
who is to blame? the overambitious parents? the new media which is looking at such shows to increase its revenues? .. its all of us.

What is it?!

Superiority is a concept commonly fallaciously talked about or falsely adopted by many. However, let us understand, what this superiority really means and whether we all are in true terms the "superior" race we claim to be.

Superiority may be defined as 'being of a higher nature or kind.' But what is this 'higher nature' really? Is it merely talking suave, walking like a feline, dressing chic or just keeping aloof for that matter? Well,to be true, i too have not really understood what this 'superiority thingy' really means, and i dont think many of us have also!

Everything seems to be relative, for what you may percieve to be superior or avant garde may be some sort of primitive act for others. And so, those who claim to have attained that awfully high level of superiority may just be making themselves sole antique 'losers'. Who knows?

Truly, i am in a dilemma. I want you to explain to me what 'superiority' really is. I want to know when is a person superior and when is he not. Is superiority merely a feeling of 'high' or is it something everyone perceives to be the same? And most of all, does it exist as a mere 11 letter word?

The "SIZE" Of Happiness

It wasn't until one winter weekend, that i discovered that flowers talk also. And believe me, when i saw that happen, i was rather bewildered and then rather confused when they calmly stopped conversing and settled peacefully into the lush green vicinity of my front garden. I had come back from school and was extremely frustrated with life for i had had a bad day- full of horrible sums and questions and answers and poems! I was fretting over petty things and wasting my life!

I walked into the garden exasperated with my homework and books and threw myself onto a chair. Aimlesly, i began plucking some strands of weed and tossed them into one of the flower beds, when i heard a silent chuckle...

"It seems your aim is rather fine.."

I turned around to find that a stricking flower had risen from the spot where the weed strand had landed. And before i knew it, some dozen pretty things had grown around me from the multitudes of weed i had thrown. They all gapped at me rather haughtily as if saying "Look at us, we're so beautiful!!!"

"Why don't you come to us more often?" said one rose.
"We occasioanlly need a human friends" said another
"But why are you so sad?" asked a fresh golden marigold one.
"Oh, he's just feeling jealous of us! He wants to be a flower" answered a petunia before i could even move.

I really liked that reply and found it extremely courageous of the little plant to say something like that to a "human" as big and vicious as me.

Thus i realised a few things and made note of them in my brain:-

a-Small things are also as pretty and lovely as big appealing ones
b-It takes something as random as a flower to bring joy
c-One should not fret over things of nominal importance

The flowers just intrigued me. I visit them often now and always seem to find my share of happiness.
